One of Kyoto's three unusual 'strange' festivals, held on the second Sunday of April to placate the plague-spreading deity of falling cherry blossoms. Red-haired oni dancers, flower-decked umbrellas and taiko wind through the streets, and passers-by duck under the umbrellas to ward off illness for the year.
