The birthplace of Japan's koinobori river-crossing: around 500 carp streamers are strung across the clear Shimanto River above Koinobori Park in Shimanto-cho each spring. The main 'Yottekoi Shimanto' festival day on May 3 adds paper-craft workshops, food stalls, and amego (river fish) fishing for families.
