One of Shiogama Shrine's three annual mikoshi festivals, held every March 10 since 1882 to ward off fire and misfortune ahead of spring. Its highlight is the Aremikoshi: 16 bearers carrying a one-ton portable shrine down the shrine's steep 202-step Omotezaka staircase.
