Hakodate's biggest summer festival, held since 1935 to mark the opening of the port. It opens on Aug 1 with the Doshin Fireworks Display over the bay and continues Aug 2-3 with the 'Wasshoi Hakodate' parade, where thousands of dancers perform the signature 'Ika Odori' (squid dance) through the Jujigai, Matsukaze, Chiyogadai and Goryokaku streets. Visitors are welcome to join the squid dance.
