PAST EVENTFREE ENTRY長崎神社例大祭
Tokyo · Kanto
The annual autumn grand festival (reitaisai) of Nagasaki-jinja — a neighbourhood shrine in the Nagasaki area of Toshima ward, TOKYO, not Nagasaki city. A low-key local matsuri with mikoshi processions and food stalls, one of the last of the Tokyo festival season.
Happens every year
What to expect
The festival fills the Shimamachi district with the lively sounds of taiko drums and the aroma of street food stalls. The shrine's lanterns illuminate the evening, creating a warm, inviting glow.
Best viewing tips
Catch the mikoshi procession as it winds through the narrow streets. Visit in the evening for the best atmosphere, and bring cash for food stalls as cards are often not accepted.
