Shiogama Minato Matsuri

One of Japan's Three Great Boat Festivals. On the eve (Marine Day weekend), roughly 8,000 fireworks light up Shiogama Port. On Marine Day itself, mikoshi are loaded onto the ornate dragon boat Ryuhomaru and phoenix boat Hoomaru, which sail into Matsushima Bay escorted by roughly 100 fishing boats, followed by a land parade through town.
