Zama's sunflower festival runs for three days in mid-August, not in July — the July Kurihara session was discontinued in 2019. Recent editions fell on 14-16 Aug 2026, 9-11 Aug 2025 and 10-13 Aug 2024, with about 550,000 sunflowers across the Zama and Yotsuya areas either side of Sagakeyori Bridge, 09:30-17:00 and free to enter. Zama City announces the exact three days each spring, and peak bloom can shift them slightly.

What to expect
The vast sunflower fields stretch across the landscape, their vibrant yellow petals creating a sea of color under the summer sun. The air is filled with the scent of blooming flowers and the lively sounds of nearby festivities.
Best viewing tips
Visit in the late afternoon for softer light and cooler temperatures. Bring a hat and sunscreen, as shade is limited. Check local schedules for festival dates to enjoy additional food and entertainment. The organiser sets this edition's dates closer to the time — confirm before you travel.
