津和野 流鏑馬神事
Shimane · Chugoku
Traditional mounted archery held at Washibara Hachimangu Shrine in the castle town of Tsuwano on the first Sunday of April, in morning and afternoon runs. Archers in Kamakura-period hunting dress gallop a 250m course lined with over 100 cherry trees, shouting 'in-yo' as they loose arrows at three targets. Free general seating fills early during peak sakura season.
