What to expect
The Gion Matsuri features grand yamaboko floats adorned with intricate tapestries and traditional music echoing through Kyoto's streets. The vibrant atmosphere is filled with the scent of festival foods and the sight of locals in yukata.
Best viewing tips
For the best view of the floats, position yourself along Shijo Street early. Consider visiting during Yoiyama on July 16 and 23 for a closer look at the floats before the main processions.
