Tori-no-Ichi runs only on the Days of the Rooster in November — in 2026 that is just two dates, Saturday 7 November and Thursday 19 November, with nothing in between. Hanazono Shrine's fair is Shinjuku's version, smaller and rowdier than Asakusa's, wedged between the Golden Gai bars and the department stores, and it is best after dark when the kumade stalls light up and the hand-clapping ceremonies carry down the lanes. The market runs through the night on each Rooster day. In 2027 there are three Rooster days: 2, 14 and 26 November.

What to expect
The bustling fairgrounds of Hanazono-jinja are filled with the clamor of vendors selling colorful kumade rakes, believed to bring good fortune. The air is rich with the scent of yakitori and festival foods.
Best viewing tips
Visit after sunset for the most vibrant atmosphere, as the illuminated stalls create a festive glow. Bring cash for purchasing kumade and snacks, as many vendors may not accept cards.
