Okinawa
Japan's earliest azalea festival, held at Higashi Village Tsutsuji Eco Park where about 50,000 azalea bushes blanket the hillsides in pink, red and white. Peak bloom is typically mid-March, with a Ryukyuan performing-arts day (traditional dance, sanshin, karate) partway through. Adult entry 300 yen; free for children 15 and under.
