In late June the hydrangea garden (ajisai-en) along the historic 400m corridor of Kibitsu Shrine in Okayama City bursts into roughly 1,500 blooms in shades of blue, pink and purple. Entry is free; visitors can optionally enjoy matcha and traditional sweets. A tranquil early-summer counterpoint to the shrine's famous architecture.
