Asakusa Tori no Ichi

Tori-no-Ichi runs only on the Days of the Rooster in November — in 2026 that is just two dates, Saturday 7 November and Thursday 19 November, with nothing happening in between. Held at Ohtori Shrine and the adjoining Chokoku-ji in Asakusa, this is Tokyo's largest and busiest rooster market, and it runs a full 24 hours on each of those days, from midnight to midnight. Stalls sell kumade — ornately decorated bamboo rakes meant to rake in fortune for the coming year — and each sale is sealed with a rhythmic hand-clapping ceremony. Around 800,000 people pass through across the two nights. In 2027 there are three Rooster days: 2, 14 and 26 November.
