Okinawa
A viewpoint at the northern end of Shimojishima Airport's Runway 17, named for the runway's 170-degree compass heading. At low tide a sandy shore is exposed in shallow turquoise water directly beneath the flight path, letting visitors watch touch-and-go training aircraft pass low overhead. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
