Okinawa
Kouri Island is reached by a toll-free bridge from the north of Okinawa's main island, and the causeway crossing over pale, shallow water is much of the reason to go. The bridge is free and open at all hours; some of the beach car parks charge ¥300–500. There is no rail on this part of the island — it is about an hour and forty minutes' drive from Naha Airport. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
