Upama Beach

Upama Beach

ウパーマ浜

Okinawa

A quiet crescent of white coral sand and clear turquoise water on Kudaka Island's northeast coast, backed by low vegetation and reef flats. Like almost every beach on this sacred island, swimming here is prohibited out of respect, so it is a place to walk, sit and take in the view. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.

Why it's hidden

Most day-trippers pedal straight to Cape Kaberu and never stop at this empty, swim-forbidden beach along the way.
