Okinawa
The Motobu Peninsula is the blunt headland on the north-west coast of Okinawa Main Island, and the base for Ocean Expo Park and its aquarium, the Nakijin castle ruins and the bridges out to Sesoko and Kouri. Inland it rises into limestone hills and small farming villages, and the ferry to Ie Island leaves from Motobu Port. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.
