Mount Yaedake
八重岳Okinawa
The tallest peak on the Motobu Peninsula (453m), with a road winding to a summit lookout over northern Okinawa and the East China Sea. Some 7,000 Ryukyu kanhi-zakura trees line that road and bloom deep pink from mid-January to early February, making this Japan's earliest cherry blossom festival — weeks before the mainland season starts. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.
