Katsurahama Beach

桂浜

Kochi · Shikoku

Crescent-shaped Pacific-facing beach at the tip of the Urado Peninsula, long celebrated as a moon-viewing spot in the Tosa folk song Yosakoi Bushi. Site of a 13.5m bronze statue (1928) of Kochi native and Bakumatsu-era hero Sakamoto Ryoma, overlooking the ocean from Ryuzu Cape, plus Katsurahama Aquarium and the Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Museum.

Why we picked it

The most iconic single image associated with Kochi Prefecture (Ryoma statue and Pacific coastline) yet under-featured relative to its cultural weight.
