Yonaguni Monument

与那国海底地形

Okinawa

A mysterious underwater rock formation off Arakawabana Cape on Yonaguni's south coast, discovered by divers in 1986 -- sharp geometric terraces and stair-like edges that have fueled decades of debate over whether it is natural or man-made. Reachable only by guided dive, 5-25m down. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.

Why it's hidden

Mainstream travelers often overlook Yonaguni Island due to its remote location and limited accessibility.
