Gorilla Chop

ゴリラチョップ

Okinawa

ゴリラチョップ is a shore snorkelling and diving point at Sakimotobu on the Motobu Peninsula, named for a coastal rock formation about 7-8 metres tall that, from the right angle, reads as a gorilla mid-karate-chop. The water here is clear and shallow close to shore, which is why local dive schools use it for first-timer training as often as for its own reef. It sits directly on the road to Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, a few minutes short of it.

Why we picked it

It has none of the aquarium's crowds a few minutes up the same road, no admission gate, and no name most first-time visitors to the Motobu Peninsula would recognise before arriving.
