Sada Chinkabashi (Sada Submersible Bridge)

佐田沈下橋

Kochi · Shikoku

The largest and most photographed of the Shimanto River's chinkabashi -- railingless 'submersible bridges' engineered to sit low and let floodwaters pass over them rather than washing them away. The Sada bridge spans a broad, clear stretch of the Shimanto near its mouth and is a popular spot for river swimming and canoeing beneath it.

Why we picked it

While the Shimanto River itself is known, this specific bridge is often skipped by visitors who only see the river from a distance.
