Okinawa
A 450-meter tunnel complex dug 20 meters underground by the Japanese Navy in 1944 to serve as its Okinawa command post. About 300 meters, including the commanding officer's room still scarred by grenade blasts, the staff room, and the code room, are open to walk through, offering a sober counterpoint to the beach-and-castle image of Okinawa.
