Sunayama Beach

Sunayama Beach is reached by climbing over a sand dune — the name means "sand mountain" — which then opens onto a small bay with a natural rock arch standing at one end. It is free and open at all hours, about 20 minutes' walk from the nearest bus stop on Miyakojima. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.
