A self-funded concrete memorial erected in 1970 by a traveling student on Hateruma Island, marking the southernmost point of Japan accessible on an inhabited island (the true geographic extremity lies roughly 1.5km further southwest, unmarked). Two companion monuments stand beside it: a 1995 Peace Monument and a 1972 reversion memorial.
