Miyara River

宮良川

Okinawa

The Miyara River on Ishigaki runs through a mangrove forest designated a national natural monument, and most visitors see it from a guided kayak or canoe. Viewing from the bank is free; the guided tours are charged separately. It is about 20 minutes by car or bus from Ishigaki City, and it is not reachable by road from Naha, which is a different island. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.

Why it's hidden
