Okinawa
A forested grove in the centre of Kudaka Island, regarded as one of the seven holiest utaki (sacred sites) of the Ryukyus and long considered the most sacred place in Okinawa. It was the stage of the Izaiho, an all-female ritual once held every twelve years. Entry into the grove is strictly forbidden to everyone — visitors never go inside; the site is experienced only from outside its boundary, marked by a simple sign. Treat it as an active place of worship: keep to the path and do not cross the marker.
Usual hours — confirm with the official site for holidays + seasonal closures.
