Aiyaru Beach

Aiyaru Beach

アイヤル浜

Okinawa

An undeveloped beach on Taketomi Island's east coast, reached via an unpaved track locally nicknamed "Butterfly Road"; the name means "east beach/east field" in the local dialect. Strong currents next to a ferry channel make swimming prohibited, but it's a known star-sand collecting spot and one of the island's few sunrise-facing shores. Typhoon season runs roughly June to October, and a passing storm can cancel ferries, flights and all marine activity across the islands at a day's notice — check the forecast before you rely on this stop.

Why it's hidden

No toilets, no shade, no signage, and a rough 20-minute bike ride down a dirt path — which is exactly why it stays far quieter than Kaiji Beach.
